Days to Remember: Jan 26, 2008 – Kale really started talking and cooing and having conversations with me, daddy, and his little monkey toy!
Jan 28, 2008 – Discovery that Kale LOVES looking at himself in the mirror or at pictures of himself. He also smiles and coos at the pictures in a book when we read to him. Also today, we went to the doctor for a follow-up and he gave 2 strangers that said hi to him in the waiting room big smiles and he also smiled and talked to the doctor. She said she couldn’t believe he was holding his head up so well and he really shouldn’t be able to do that for another month or so. When we were done and she left the room, I heard her telling the nurses how cute Kale was and how he was holding his head up and talking to her. Thanks for bragging on my baby, doc Lawson!!
Jan 30, 2008 – Kale’s first airplane trip!! He smiled at all the stewardesses and pilot gave him his first wings. He was so easy and fun to travel with- lucky mom!!
Feb 3rd – we noticed he grew eyelashes!!
Feb 12th – 2 month checkup where he got 3 sets of shots. He was a good strong boy. Mom and Dad had a harder time watching!! His weight and height growth are perfect!!
Feb 15th – He makes spit bubbles. He bats at toys and holds on to a rattle. He likes his bouncer now, but only for about 15 minutes at a time.
Feb 18th – He loves baths so much that we’ve started giving him baths every day before his nighty night time, even though we only soap and wash hair a few times a week. He is fitting into is 3-6 mos clothes now.
Feb 19th – He laughed out loud (in his sleep). We’ve noticed he loves watching tv (oh no!!)
Feb 20th – He can do baby pushups. He slept from 9pm to 7:30 am with one bottle at midnight – what a good baby!!!
Feb 21st – We started his sleep training to get him permanently in the crib and teach him to soothe himself! We're using the gradual extinction method. Wish us luck!
Mar 5th - Went back to work after 12 weeks off. Luckily my wonderful company gave me paid maternity leave and now I'm back half-time for a couple of weeks to ease back into things. So far so good. I'm confident that I'll do a great job both at work and as a mom and I'm looking forward to the challenge!
Mar 6th – Report on Sleep training – he’s a perfect angel and sleeps through the night in the crib. We used the graduated extinction method, but I got lucky and I didn’t have to let Kale cry it out for more than 10 minutes. Of course those 10 minutes were spent with me sitting outside Kale's door crying with him, but luckily he soothes himself very well!
Mar 6th – MILESTONE: FIRST LAUGH: He laughed while he was awake for the first time with Meela Masi!!
Mar 8th - We're working on the daytime naps now as well as teaching Kale to soothe himself even more than he already does. We'd like to be able to put him down while he's still awake when it's time for a nap and let him soothe himself to sleep. So far so good. Sleep training is tough, but the end of it is near and Kale is doing great!
